Letter to the Editor: Thank You For Extending Summer Access to E15 Fuel

During a recent visit to Washington alongside biofuel leaders at Growth Energy, our team at NUVU fuels had the opportunity to meet with lawmakers about the urgent need to extend summer access to E15. In Michigan alone, the higher biofuel blend offers drivers more than $1 billion in fuel savings annually, reduces emissions, and supports the state’s rural economy.

Thankfully, champions like Senators Stabenow and Peters took up the cause. As a result, President Biden’s EPA recently approved an emergency waiver, temporarily lifting outdated restrictions on summer fuel options. With rising prices, the waiver will allow NUVU fuels and other retailers across the Midwest to provide our customers uninterrupted access to E15.

Americans have driven more than 42 billion miles on E15, and sales continue to grow, as more drivers seek to cut costs. With any luck, before this time next year, leaders in Washington will be able to act on a permanent fix, so consumers don’t need special permission from EPA to access lower-cost, lower-carbon biofuel blends.
