Lowell Harvest Celebration Happening This Weekend

One of Lowell’s major festivals takes place this Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022. The annual Harvest Celebration starts with a family-friendly 5k and ends with a concert from singer-songwriter Drew Nelson. In between, there are apples and chili to taste, pumpkins to decorate and shops to browse.

Here’s a rundown of the major happenings at the Harvest Festival in Lowell, Michigan:

8:30am: Harvest Hustle – If you’re not a runner, that’s ok. Come and walk this 5k route through Lowell. Bring the kids – there are no age restrictions. You can register in advance online or show up by the garage entrance of the Lowell Police Department at 7:30am to register on race day. More information can be found on the Harvest Hustle Fall Classic webpage.

8am-11:30am: Pancake Breakfast and Apple Tasting – Once you’ve worked up an appetite from running or walking the Harvest Hustle, head to the Wittenbach Wege Center on Vergennes Rd. across from the Lowell High School. There, you can have a pancake breakfast for $5 per person. Plus, there will be apples to taste, and you can browse the WWC’s many displays and grounds.

10am-4pm: Autumn Marketplace On Main Street — After breakfast, head back to downtown Lowell for a little shopping. Stores and vendors will have displays set up along Main Street and on the Riverwalk Plaza.

10am-4pm: Lowell Light & Power Pumpkin Decorating – While on the Riverwalk, watch for Lowell Light & Power to have pumpkins available for decorating. The gourds have been generously donated by Heidi’s Farmstand. While your kids decorate their pumpkins, don’t forget to enter to win a bill credit if you are a LL&P customer.

12pm-3pm: Live Entertainment on the Riverwalk – As you wander around downtown, you’ll be treated to some music from Cheater B’s Band which will be playing a mix of Americana, folk and other music on the Riverwalk.

1pm-4pm: Chili Cook-Off Tasting – By now, you’re probably getting hungry again, and lucky for you, there is a chili cook-off going on. Wristbands can be purchased from the Chamber of Commerce Building on the Riverwalk starting at 11am on Saturday. They are only $10 each, and they will give you a chance to sample chili from the following:

  • Big Boiler Brewing
  • Grillin’ Guys
  • Junction Bar & Grill
  • Keiser’s Kitchen
  • Lowell Moose Lodge #809
  • Main Street BBQ
  • Miss P’s Catering
  • Rio Plano Taqueria
  • Sneaker’s
  • Ripple
  • MudPenny

There are only 300 wristbands available and when the chili is gone, it’s gone!

But if you miss the chili, don’t worry. There are plenty of restaurants on and near Main Street that will be open for lunch and dinner during the Harvest Celebration.

7pm: LowellArts Gallery Concert – Now it’s time to close out the day with a LowellArts Gallery Concert. While listening to the music of Drew Nelson, feel free to check out the art on display in the gallery at 223 W. Main Street. Tickets can be purchased for $12 in advance or $17 at the door. LowellArts members get a $2 discount.
