Mel Trotter Ministries Closes Lowell Thrift Store

The Lowell thrift store for Mel Trotter Ministries has been shuttered, leaving area bargain shoppers with one less place to look for deals.

In a recent email newsletter, the non-profit included the following message:

We also wanted to make everyone aware, our Lowell store, at 2111 West Main Street, is now closed. We love the area and the community of our Lowell location, but have made the difficult decision to close the doors to this store. We hope that by closing this store we are able to provide more support to our other locations in order to create the best thrifting experience possible.

The Lowell location opened at the end of 2019 and was located in the Lowell City Mall next to Tractor Supply Co. Its last day was June 26, according to Dan Kotman, director of marketing.

Responding to an email from Lowell’s First Look, Kotman reiterated the message from the newsletter. “After careful consideration, MTM made this difficult decision in order to provide more operational support to our other Thrift locations,” he wrote. “We are grateful to the Lowell community for their partnership in our mission to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus to anyone experiencing hunger and homelessness.”

In its newsletter, Mel Trotter says it will be opening new thrift store locations in the years to come but gave no indication as to where those would be based. Current thrift stores are located in Grand Rapids, Sparta, Jenison, Kentwood and Belding.

  1. I lived in Lowell for some time. And loved the thrift
Shop..and all Mel Trotter does for community..I still have friends in lowell…

  2. This is very sad for the community. I don’t live in Lowell but visited the store regularly. A thrift store is much more affordable for young families and others on a budget. I would hope you’d reconsider coming back to Lowell in the future.
