Pink Arrow Family Support Program Available to Lowell Residents

Each year, Lowell packs the high school stadium with pink in a show of support for those in the community who have been affected by cancer.

However, don’t make the mistake of thinking that support is limited to simply the emotional tributes paid during the annual Pink Arrow game and ceremony. Instead, it continues throughout the year in the form of financial support to area families who are facing a cancer diagnosis.

The Pink Arrow Family Support Program provides a financial gift – which may come in the form of a paid household bill, grocery gift cards or other manner – once per year to eligible residents. Each family can receive up to three gifts during the time a household member has cancer or the family has expenses related to cancer.

Eligibility Requirements for the Pink Arrow Family Support Program

The Pink Arrow Family Support Program is available to all Lowell families. Financial need is not considered, and there is no requirement to submit anything more than a simple application form.

However, applicants must all into one of the following two categories:

  • The family lives in the Lowell Area School District and has a member of the household who is currently experiencing cancer, OR
  • The individual who has cancer is an alum of Lowell Area Schools and has family currently living in the Lowell Area School District.

Once an application is received, a member of Lowell Community Wellness will be in touch to discuss the best way to distribute the gift.

Doak Dean Fundraiser Helps Support Program

In 2022, Lowell Community Wellness received $44,000 from Pink Arrow Pride to fund the family support program. Normally, Pink Arrow events are the only source of money for the fund, but this year is different.

Last month, a group of area residents and businesses put on a fundraiser for Doak Dean who is currently receiving treatment for cancer. Doak is the son of former Lowell football coach Noel Dean who, incidentally, is also the person who originally had the idea for a Pink Arrow game.

The fundraiser for Doak was a huge success thanks to numerous people and organizations, and approximately $45,000 was raised. While the fundraiser was held to cover out-of-pocket costs for the Dean family, the amount raised is expected to exceed their need and the remainder will be given to the Pink Arrow Family Support Program.

The application and more information about Pink Arrow Project grants can be found on the Lowell Community Wellness website. You can also follow the group on Facebook.
