5 Most Popular Articles on Lowell’s First Look for April 2024

April was a hot month here on Lowell’s First Look. We nearly doubled our views and visitors when compared to March. That may be partly thanks to our annual April Fools’ Day article but also because our writers knocked it out of the ballpark in terms of reporting on topics that clearly are of interest to Lowell-area residents.

Before we get into the top five of the month, come give us a follow on Instagram. For May, we are highlighting the many and diverse places that serve up food in Lowell. In our round-up next month, we’ll share which ones you like best, based on IG likes.

In the meantime, these were the most-read articles on Lowell’s First Look for April 2024, based on website views.

5. Lowell Police Department, Other Agencies Arrest Two Suspects After Long Pursuit

Last year, the City of Lowell mounted Flock cameras at each of its four main entry points. These cameras capture license plate information as vehicles enter the city. If the license plate is associated with a warrant, active investigation or stolen vehicle, local police are alerted.

That’s what happened in April when the Lowell Police Department received word that a stolen vehicle was traveling through town. However, the driver refused to stop for an officer and took off, leading police on a 60+ mile pursuit. The vehicle was eventually disabled in Rockford, and two suspects were taken into custody. A press release about the incident was the fifth most-read article on Lowell’s First Look in April.

Lowell is home to several salons, many of which offer exemplary services. One of the newest additions to the community is Echo Salon. Opened last fall, this is the second Echo Salon for owner Melissa Looman. The original Echo Salon can be found in Grand Rapids while the second location is in the Lowell Plaza near the corner of Main and Amity Streets. Our profile of this business nabbed the No. 4 spot for the month.

3. Lowell Meijer to Undergo Renovation, Promises Transformed Shopping Experience

Say hello to Ginny, our newest writer! She heard Meijer was planning a renovation and set to work figuring out exactly what would change. Ends up, among other things, there will be updated graphics, expansions to the pet and pharmacy sections and new additions such as a fresh sushi bar and a pizzeria in the gas station.

Based on the Facebook comments for this article, not all of you are enthralled with our local Meijer store. But many of you are definitely interested – this was the third most-read article in April.

2. Lowell Twp Board Recap: Liquor License Approved for Bobbie Sue’s Roadhouse

In more business news, the Lowell Township Board gave its blessing for a liquor license to be issued to Bobbie Sue’s Roadhouse. The new restaurant will be moving in the building previously used by Golden Dragon and La Te Da’s on Fulton Street. However, first, there are significant renovations planned.

Of course, the Lowell Township Board had other items on their agenda, and those were covered in this recap as well. But we are pretty sure everyone just read it for the Bobbie Sue’s news.

1. Aldi Coming to Lowell this Summer

Ok, we’re sorry. Aldi isn’t coming to Lowell…at least not in the foreseeable future. This was our annual April Fools’ Day article, and it was just too perfect of an idea to pass up. We all know that there is nothing people want more than another grocery store (see also: Facebook comments on Meijer article). And we also now know that Aldi is no joking matter for some of you. Forgive us?
